Fantasy fans in particular may notice some familiar faces, as The Stranger’s recurring cast includes an actor and an actress from Game of Thrones, as well as a star from The Hobbit series.
Richard Armitage as Adam Price
Richard Armitage, best known for playing Thorin in the Hobbit films, leads the billing in The Stranger. This actually isn’t his first time involved in a Netflix Original show, as he also voices Trevor Belmont in Netflix’s animated Castlevania series. Armitage has done a lot of television over the years, so there’s a fair chance you’ve seen him in something. He also played a major role in the third season of Hannibal.
Hannah John-Kamen as The Stranger
It’s never a bad thing when your character is also the name of the show. Recently, Hannah John-Kamen has been most visible as a recurring character on SyFy’s show The Killjoys, but some may recognize her from her two episodes in the sixth season of Game of Thrones where she played Ornela. She’s also made appearances in The Force Awakens, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and Black Mirror.
Paul Kaye as John Katz
The second Game of Thrones alumni on the cast is Paul Kaye, who featured in ten episodes of the HBO show as Thoros of Myr. Hardcore fans of Netflix Originals might also recognize him from the four episodes he played as Duncan Hammer, on Netflix’s first ever original show, Lilyhammer.
Siobhan Finneran as Johanna Griffin
If you recognize Siobhan Finneran, it’s most likely from the shows Downton Abbey or Happy Valley, where she starred in two seasons of each.
Jennifer Saunders as Heidi
You’re actually most likely to recognize Jennifer Saunders from her role as a voice actor. The actress is best known for voicing Fairy Godmother in Shrek 2, and The Queen in Minions.
Rounding out the cast there’s also Dervla Kirwan as Corrine Price, Anthony Head as Ed Price, and Stephen Rea as Martine Killane, among a handful of others. The vast majority of The Stranger’s actors, including all the bolded names above, are from England.
You can get your British thriller fix when all eight episodes of season 1 are available to stream tonight, January 30th, at midnight PST.
Here’s Netflix’s short summary for the show, which it describes as a suspenseful and mysterious crime drama.
When a stranger makes a shocking claim about his wife, family man Adam Price becomes entangled in a mystery as he desperately searches for answers.
